John Wall was welcome to Washington like a king. He was driven in an SUV size limo to the Verizon center and walked the red carpet. There was also a banner hanging outside the arena naming Wall a “Game Changer”. He wanted to keep his number eleven jersey that he played with in Kentucky but Washington was unwilling to relinquish it from Elvin Hayes. The arena used to be draped in Gilbert Arenas memorabilia until he pleaded guilty to bringing guns in the locker room and was suspended for fifty games. The Wizards have not had a No.1 overall pick since Kwame Brown in 2001 and he only lasted four seasons. So this brings about the question are they resting too much on this rookie’s shoulders? He has not even placed a NBA jersey on his body yet and he’s already getting a hero’s homecoming.
