Jun 2010 24

Apparently everyone in the world is tuning in to the 2010 NBA draft. But just in case you are not. Here is an update on the top ten draft picks in the first round.

John Wall – The number one pick in the first round goes to Washington Wizards as many predicted . He joins John Lucas, Magic Johnson, Allen Iverson and Derrick Rose as a point guard to be the number one pick. He is also the third freshman to be selected at this position in the last four years.

2. Evan Turner – Philadelphia 76ers… He’s really skilled at the game in general and has terrific mid range game. Turner is such an underrated athlete, but is so versatile as a defender and an offensive player that he will play exceptionally beside Iguodala this upcoming season.

3. Derrick Favors – New Jersey Nets… As the youngest American player in the draft at age eighteen, this junior version of Dwight Howard has to improve his post game and his jump shots.  Also needs to improve his free throws but plenty are excited to see what he’s going to be able to do in New Jersey.

4. Wesley Johnson – Minnesota Timberwolves… He is an efficient shooter and has the potential to be a good defender. He is probably going to be a second option star such as Shawn Marion but he’s a much better shooter.

5. DeMarcus Cousins – Sacramento Kings… The third freshman to be selected in the top five this year’s draft, Cousins is a productive rebounder but must improve his maturity level.

6. Ekpe Udoh – Golden State Warriors… He averages about 4 blocks and just under 10 rebounds a game but must improve his strength level.

7. Greg Monroe – Detroit Pistons… Monroe is an elite passer and has got the ability to catch the ball in isolation. He has great footwork and if he learns how to consistently knock down the 17 and 18 footes he’ll be an exceptional player and contributor to the game.

8. Al Farouq Aminu – Los Angeles Clippers… He’s a high volume rebounder (close to 11 per game) and the only player in ACC to average a double double. He’s not a great shooter but he’s excellent in transition. Must improve his shooting consistency.

9. Gordon Hayward – Utah Jazz… Averages about 15 points and 8 rebounds, leading his team in both categories. He’s terrific with his left hand and great in pick and roll situations. Hayward plays with good pace and has good hesitation moves as well as exceptional in transition. He’s not an elite shooter and has a few issues in the post game.

10. Paul George – Indiana Pacers… He has a very good shooting stroke and has improved as a finisher over the last year and a half. He has the ability to get to the rim a lot more often than he does. He has skill and sky rocketed potential and only needs to improve in strength.

We will keep you updated! Congratulations to all the new NBA players. Work hard and good luck!
