Walking into Miami’s arena, Dallas heard a string of boos (something LeBron has gotten a little used to). But, the loud noises and distractions did not work because the Mavericks snapped the Heat’s  winning streak with a 98-96 win of their own. This win shows a lot of things about each team. First of all, Dallas has an incredible defense. They force teams to play at their pace and Miami just simply could not get into the rhythm that has been dominating teams in their previous twelve game. Second of all, Miami did not play with the fire that they have been. In games where they have been victorious, Miami makes defenders chase them, this tires them out, and they perform exquisitely in the paint. They rotate the ball well and capitalize on fast breaks and forced turnovers. When Mike Miller entered the game he received an amount of love from the crowd like no other but proved to be a little rusty missing three of his first shots but getting a decent four rebounds in the first minutes of his Heat debut.

Another reason why Miami fell to Dallas tonight was because of the forced three point shots that they were taking. Instead of being patient and finding a hole in the defense in order to penetrate to the rim, they continuously threw the ball away (Wade 3/7, Arroyo 0/1, Jones 3/7). Dallas also outscored Miami in fast break points and points in the paint. After falling behind with a little time left in the game, Lebron and Wade tried to pull out a W for the team, but with the free throws favoring Dallas and the turnovers Miami was giving up, it was a lost cause. This does not mean that the Miami Heat team is not a contender to be dealt with or that Mike Miller’s long awaited arrival was a bust. It simply means that this team still has a thing or two to learn about finishing games against teams .500+.
