So as the “Melo” drama continues, it is being said that the Nets might comeback in the 11th hour. However, meetings are being held and Mikhail Prokhorov has made no mention of Carmelo Anthony.
As it stands, the Knicks might be the likely suitor. The issue in my opinion, is the Nuggets are asking for way too much! They want Felton, Gallinari, Eddy Curry’s expiring contract, & a first round draft pick. All of this in exchange for Carmelo Anthony & Chauncey Billups. I’m sorry, but it’s just not that deep. I mean I love Melo and all, and I know that he would be a great addition to New York. I just don’t feel Carmelo & Amare’ can carry the team alone. New York needs Felton, & Gallinari adds flavor too. Chauncey is old, so his time may be limited. New York could possibly end up with a lemon:(
Then again, I guess I could look at the flip side of it. Billups’ contract expires this season, & not guaranteed for next season. So in potential theory, the Knicks could gain Melo, waive Billups after the season, & use the cap space for legit free-agents such as Tyson Chandler & Marc Gasol. In addition, in 2012 the Knicks can then go after PG Chris Paul. That could be a great look. However, this move could leave NY without the dominant PG that D’Antoni would need for those 2 seasons. Especially with his fast- paced system of coaching. Leaves too many what if’s & uncertainty.
Either way, the Nuggets may want to lower their demands. Reason being is if Carmelo decides not to extend with them & walks after his contract is up, Denver is going to end up “The BIGGEST Loser”.
