Brandon Roy was injured and had to sit out two months, while watching his team build towards the playoffs without him. That would be emotional for anyone, however, his feelings were deeply hurt when he was not able to play against Dallas in the Game two loss in which the Mavericks held the home court advantage. Should he have made his feelings known? No. This is the postseason and far from the time to put your emotions front and center. Portland is already a lower seeded team than Dallas and at the time were at a 2-0 series disadvantage.
It seemed like a bad idea to him to, because he came out and issued an apology not too long after for the comments he made about his involvement in the series. Well, you know when you make complaints like those, you must come out the very next game and deliver. If not everyone will think you were blowing smoke and deserved the treatment you were battling against. So what did he do?
In game three, against Dallas in Portland, Roy played 24 minutes and contributed 16 points to his team’s victory. Whether it was because he felt more comfortable at home or not does not matter at this point. He took the time he was given and helped him team in any way he could and thankfully they refused to fall 3-0 in this series like the Pacers and the Sixers.
He is not going to be deemed the closer nor is he going to be the leader of this franchise. Brandon Roy is now going to be second to LaMarcus Aldridge and that will not change. How he will shift his production with his responsibilities changed from the superstar of the team to a backup, is up to him.
