GM!BOW: Joakim Noah

Weight/Height: 232 lbs/6’11

Team, Position: Chicago Bulls, Center

College: Florida

Draft Year: 2007, 1st round by Chicago Bulls

As a member of the league leading Chicago Bulls, Joakim Noah’s defensive presence was missed earlier in the season after having surgery to repair a torn ulna collateral ligament in his right thumb. For all who do not understand what that means, he hurt his thumb and he had surgery on it that took him out of 30 games.

People do not understand how important he is to the Bulls’ defense, because without him they still made strides to the top of the Eastern Conference. However, to doubt his contributions to the team would be benign and insulting. Noah averages 11.7 points and 10.4 rebounds per game. His board absence, even though Carlos Boozer was available, was missed as Derrick Rose had to chip in and assist in ways that he never had to before.

He has been taken off and put back on the court so much this season that it is a wonder how he remains a consistent factor in Bulls’ wins. Noah will need to be at his best in order to make a deep run in the playoffs, because without him, Rose and Boozer will be required to defend some of the toughest competition they have faced and Chicago will fall early. Joakim Noah is so aggressive that it takes a lot to shut him down and his persistence coupled with Rose’s ability to slither through a defense is what will bring the Bulls back to the Finals where many feel they belong.
