Draft Year: 2009 1st round, 19th pick by Atlanta Hawks

Kirk Hinrich was down and out. He was a key element to instrumental offensive and defensive plays for Atlanta during the Orlando series. How would they fair without him? Who would replace his effort? Jeff Teague stepped forward and has refused to step back.

Hinrich hopes that he is not out the entire season, but the team is doubtful in reference to his return. No worries. Teague will do just fine in the Atlanta line-up. As a sophomore in the NBA, Teague has grown from year one to year two. He has only started for seven games this season, but two of them in the postseason. The influence he has maintained in Hinrich’s absence is allowing him the respect that skepticism had robbed him of. Guarding Derrick Rose and being scored on is something that must go expected. He is going to get his points regardless of any rotation thrown in his direction.

Teague did a pretty good job pressuring Rose, however.  Twenty-one points, three steals and two blocks against the best defensive team in the country sounds like a seasoned point guard to me. His presence is creating a backcourt designed to give Chicago trouble. Not saying that he should feel that he has no room to improve, but appearing sound in the playoffs is something that even All-Stars have refused to do this year.
